James Opolony is a retired teacher from Proviso East High School, Maywood, Illinois and the Project Coordinator for the Proviso East High School Bataan Commemorative Research Project. His work on that project has made him the expert on the 192nd and now the 194th Tank Battalions, as well as the stories of the men who made up those battalions. The re-sulting website has won awards from the Illinois State Board of Education and is part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Besides his career as a high school teacher, Jim regularly makes presentations to groups around the US, informing others of the great history of the regular citizens who became the heroes of Bataan. He has worked with the Illinois National Guard to preserve the stories and artifacts he has collected during his work on this project.

Alford, T/Sgt. William C.

Sgt. William C. Alford was born on October 1, 1921, to George Alford and Sadie May Miller-Alford in Danville, Kentucky. He attended school from kindergarten through eighth grade in Danville, but for high school, he traveled to Burgin, Kentucky.In July 1939, he joined the Kentucky National Guard’s 38th Tank Company from Harrodsburg.
