Andermann, 1st Lt. Paul W.

1st Lt. Paul William Andermann was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on December 18, 1921, to William Andermann and Pauline E. Harloff-Andermann and had a sister and a brother. The family resided at 633 South 19th Avenue, Maywood and at 604 Thomas Street, Forest Park. He graduated from Saint Paul Lutheran School and Proviso Township High School in 1939. While in high school, he played football and wrestling. He then attended the University of California, Berkeley. It appears that while he was a student at the University of California he joined the Marine Corps Reserve.

On August 4, 1942, Paul enlisted was called to federal duty as a second lieutenant and qualified to attend flight school. He attended pre-flight school in Iowa and then attended flight school at El Centro, California, and trained as a Corsair pilot. He also trained at Glenview Naval Air Station, Illinois, and Keaney Mesa, San Diego. He was appointed a second lieutenant in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 19, 1943. He married Grace Vetter, on November 14, 1943.

On September 27, 1944, Paul was on a cross country training flight when his plane, that was being delivered to Chicago, crashed near Wagon Mound, New Mexico. It is not known if any of the other men on the plane died. He was buried in Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois, on October 6, 1944. His wife remarried.
