F2c Frank P. Yomine was born on April 28, 1923, in Melrose Park, Illinois, to Nicholas D. Yomine and Josephine Ciancio-Yomine and had a sister and a brother. His family resided at 161 North 23rd Avenue, Melrose Park. He graduated from Melrose Park School and attended Proviso Township High School before leaving after his first year. With his father’s permission, he enlisted in the US Navy on November 13, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was issued the serial number 368 53 74. He did his basic training at the San Diego Naval Base, San Diego, California.

Frank earned the rank of Fireman 2nd Class and on January 11, 1941, he was assigned to the USS Arizona. On Sunday, December 7, 1941, Frank as a member of the Arizona’s crew was killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. His parents received a telegram on December 26, 1941, stating that Frank was missing in action. On December 31, 1941, his name was officially listed by the US Navy as being MIA. His parents received official notice of his death on February 15, 1942.

After the war, F2c Frank P. Yomie’s name was placed on the wall at the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. His name also appears on the Honolulu Memorial in the Courts of the Missing.
