Welcome to the Bataan Commemorative Research Project website! Hopefully, you will be able to use some of these materials in your classroom when you are discussing World War II. Though this site was designed primarily to research and remember the local history of our veterans in the Bataan Death March, this project has grown beyond the wildest imagination of the founding teachers, Jim Opolony, Ian Smith and Renee Johansson. With the help of Social Studies teacher, Trish Howard, the project continues to grow. We have developed some activities that assist our students in appreciation of the sacrifices made by our former students and hopefully they will assist you in your classroom. MAP ACTIVITIES were designed to help students become more aware of the geography of the Pacific theatre during WWII, along with the geography of Southeast Asia, the United States, and locally in Maywood, Illinois. Activity worksheets are available under the MAP ACTIVITIES link.
