139 American POWs were massacred on Palawan Island.  The caskets of 123 American POWs who were burnet to death on Palawan await burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery outside St. Louis.  The POWs were interred at Jefferson Barracks on February 14, 1952.

The headstone of the mass grave of the 123 American POWs massacred on Palawan Island at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.  The POWs were burnt to death by the Japanese on December 14, 1944 to prevent them from being liberated by advancing American forces.
